Is Victoria Park/Stampede in the free fare zone?

Calgary Transit’s Free Fare Zone page (February 14 2026) describes the zone as running “downtown along 7 Avenue, between Downtown West/Kerby and City Hall/ Bow Valley College stations.” Victoria Park/Stampede, on Macleod Trail, is not in that stretch. Council’s May 2026 vote on the zone’s future is summarized on Getting to Victoria Park.

CTrain schedule and event nights

The Calgary Transit pages read for this guide do not state first and last train times or how often trains run; Calgary Transit’s trip planner on calgarytransit.com gives times for a given trip. On October 26 2026, Calgary Transit’s CTrain service updates page stated: “There are no CTrain service changes planned at this time.”

Event-night checklist, built from the venue and transit sources:

  • Check Calgary Transit service updates for the Red Line.
  • Buy your fare in Calgary Transit’s My Fare app before you travel, as the Calgary Stampede’s venues site suggests.
  • Saddledome doors open 90 minutes before Flames games and one hour before Hitmen, Wranglers and Roughnecks games, according to the venue’s A to Z Guide. The Saddledome’s Getting Here page urges fans to arrive early.
  • Check the C+E Access Map for closures between the station and your entrance.
  • Saddledome bags must be 14″ x 14″ x 6″ or smaller, and backpacks are not allowed (venue A to Z Guide).

Games, concerts and shows by date are on What’s On, and this weekend’s are on This weekend at Victoria Park. Festival events, prices and getting there for the Grey Cup Festival are on Grey Cup Festival at Stampede Park, and places to eat and shop near the station are on Eat and Shop in Victoria Park. For Stampede 2027 (July 9 to 18 2027), the Calgary Stampede says transit details will be available in spring 2027.

Accessibility

The platforms are at street level and reached by ramps from the north, south and Macleod Trail, according to CMLC. Neither CMLC page read for this guide mentions elevators. Calgary Transit states that its CTrains and buses have ramps that can be lowered, and it publishes elevator and escalator outage notices on calgarytransit.com. Barrier-free entrances at the Saddledome are listed on the arena page.

Service changes and closures

Calgary Transit’s project page for the station still describes the rebuild in the future tense: “When complete, the new station will be larger, more accessible, and better integrated into the surrounding area.” CMLC records that the permanent platforms were operational in December 2023 and the grand opening took place in October 2024. This guide uses the CMLC dates. Current closures appear on Calgary Transit’s service updates page.

The rebuilt station: timeline

Date Milestone (CMLC)
July 2021 Groundbreaking
October 2021 Street-level crossing opened
September 2022 Temporary platforms in use
December 2023 Permanent platforms operational
October 2024 Grand opening; completion announced October 10 2024

The station rebuild and the 17 Avenue SE extension, now named Flores LaDue Parade, cost $128 million and were led and funded by CMLC as Development Manager for The City of Calgary and the Calgary Stampede, according to CMLC’s completion article. The station has copper-vaulted canopies and a backlit glass oculus. Doug Morgan, General Manager of Operational Services for The City of Calgary, told CMLC that the Red Line “serves approximately 47,000 riders daily”. More on the district’s projects is on Victoria Park development, and on getting to each venue on Venues at Victoria Park and Stampede Park parking and transit.
